What is Web Hosting?

What is web hosting?
Web hosting companies are companies who allow you to put your websites on the internet for others to see. They provide users with space on their web servers (computers) which are connected directly to the internet via a datacenter.
What do I need?
To start making a website with a web hosting plan, all you need is a computer with internet conenctivity. The majority of hosts will supply you with some sort of method of either building a site through an in-house site builder, or importing one you made with a 3rd part software to their servers.
Price?
Web hosting prices can range from free to thousands of dollars. It really depends on what you are lookig for. While free hosting sounds like a great deak, I would almost never suggest using one, even though there are a few reputable ones. The majority of users will do just fine starting out on a shared hosting plan, costing $10 per month or less.
How do I start?
You would start by signing up for an account with a reputable web host. A quick Google search will take you to several. Among my personal recommendations are HostGatorBlueHost and Site5. You can also look for a host on forums like Web Hosting Talk for some great deals with both new and established web hosting providers.
